Now, UT to implement new house tax rates

The UT Administration on Thursday issued notification of implementation of house tax in Chandigarh.

The Administration has decided to impose the property tax on residential lands and buildings at the rate of Rs 1 per square yard for the assessment year 2013-14 except for any house having plot area less than 125 sq yds, EWS or LIG category and in the villages falling within the limits of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The exemption will not be available to the flats/dwelling units constructed by the cooperative house building societies and the Chand-igarh Housing Board etc. as the area of the entire land will be taken as a single unit and thereafter tax will be divided against the individual flat/dwelling units etc. depending upon their respective area. The Government lands and buildings would be exempted from making payment of tax so imposed, but such lands and buildings will be liable to make payment of service charges at the rate of Rs 0.75 (paise seventy five only) per square yard.
