Deadline rebate for tax defaulters

LUDHIANA: For the nearly 20,000 residents of the city, it is the last call to pay their house taxes, sewerage bills and other taxes to the municipal corporation without interest.

With no buyers for the tax defaulters' recovered properties, the MC has decided to once again follow the same old procedure. It has announced new deadline for the 20,000 tax defaulters, to give them a second chance to pay the taxes without any interest. The deadline is of August 31.

Last time the MC followed the old plan, with July 31 as the deadline, a good number of people went to submit the taxes. However, post that, the number of tax depositors decreased. Hence to make them pay tax, the MC would once again try the same procedure. However, there would be no refund of recovered the taxes, that the MC had collected during this period with interest.

To recover the pending Rs 70 crore from defaulters, the MC would be sending the notice again to them within this time period.
