Water tariff revised in bid to curb waste

PANAJI: Implementing its longpropounded “volumetric tariff”, the PWD has revised water charges for consumers in Goa effective November 1.

In a bid to curb wasteful water consumption, the PWD has long advocated revision of the water tariff on volumetric basis in four slabs, with a low tariff for less consumption, increased tariff for higher consumption, excessive tariff for over consumption and a deterrent tariff for wasteful consumption.

Accordingly, the notification has fixed the new tariff for domestic consumers at Rs 3 per cubic metre (m3) for consumption up to 25m3. The earlier tariff was Rs 2.50 per m3 for consumption up to 15m3and Rs 5 for every additional m3.
