‘Bring down vacant land tax’

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The Tax Payers Association (TPA) has demanded that the Vacant Land Tax (VLT) be collected from the year of assessment as against existing practice of collecting retrospectively from 2003.

It also wants the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to bring down the VLT from 0.5 per cent of registration value to the lowest possible level.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, TPA president V. Sambi Reddy and Secretary U.V. Anjaneyulu said that the VLT was four times higher than the property tax being collected in the city. Likewise, land values increased phenomenally in the recent past as the Government increased the registration value many a time.

They argued that the VLT that was being collected in metro cities like Chennai was far less compared to what was being collected in Vijayawada.
