Local Body Tax comes into effect in Nashik municipal corporation limits

NASHIK: Imposition of the Local Body Tax (LBT) has become effective from Wednesday in the limits of Nashik Municipal Corporation, replacing Octroi.

"The civic body closed down 32-year-old Octroi booths last night on the basis of state notification dated June 1, 2012", NMC Commissioner Sanjay Khandare said on Wednesday.

He said the traders were asked to register their businesses/establishments with the municipal corporation by collecting prescribed forms to pay LBT.

Even as NMC went ahead with the imposition of LBT, a meeting of traders held yesterday at the district collectorate on opening shops, which remained closed in the wake of protest against LBT, ended inconclusive.
