VMC bags National Urban Water Award

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) bagged second prize in the ‘National Urban Water Awards 2009’ presented in New Delhi on Thursday.
President Pratibha Devisingh Patil handed over the prize to Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu and Municipal Commissioner P.S. Pradyumna at a function in the national capital. Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy was also present.
The VMC secured second prize in the ‘Services to the Poor’ category, for its efforts in “providing subsidies and incentives for water supply to the urban poor” through reduced water connection charges and monthly tariff as well as de-linking of water services to land tenure.
