NDMC to plant 10L potted plants

NEW DELHI: In a bid to improve the aesthetics of the capital during the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will plant 10 lakh potted plants of different varieties at all the Games venues and neighbouring areas under its jurisdiction.

The civic agency has allotted a sum of Rs 23 crore to its horticulture department for the procurement of plants, earthen pots and other paraphernalia. "While around 50% of these plants will be raised in NDMC's nurseries, the rest will be procured from different states. NDMC will also procure some special ornamental plants from nurseries in Vishakahpatnam, Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad,'' officials said.

According to NDMC officials, emphasis will be on ornamental plants including palm, bamboo and various shrubs and flowering plants. Some species will be selected during field visits between August and October this year.
