Eight nominated to standing committee Members for civic panel nominated

PUNE: Political parties on Wednesday nominated senior members to the eight vacant posts of the Pune Municipal Corporation's standing committee. The new members will replace the earlier ones following their retirement from March 1.

Eight members of the standing committee retire every year. The names are decided by a draw of lots. Among the eight members who retire this year, three are from the BJP, two from the Congress and one each from the NCP, MNS and the Shiv Sena.

The Congress has nominated its city unit chief Abhay Chhajed and Kamal Vyavhare, state president, Congress women wing. The MNS has nominated Ravindra Dangekar, former leader of the party in PMC, while the NCP has nominated city improvment committee chief, Chetan Tupe; the BJP, Yogesh Mulik, Hemant Rasane and Monika Mohol from its party and the Shiv Sena has nominated its two-time corporator, Sena Prithviraj Sutar.

The members who lost their membership in the draw of lots last month include Shrinath Bhimale, Manisha Ghate and Vishnu Harihar, all of the BJP, Sheetal Sawant and Kavita Shivarkar of the Congress; Babu Wagaskar (MNS), Balasaheb Bodke (NCP) and Sanjay Bhosale (Shiv Sena).
