Aurangabad Municipal Corporation move to mortgage museum under fire
AURANGABAD: The
cash-strapped Aurangabad Municipal Corporation's plan to mortgage the
Shivaji Maharaj museum against a loan of Rs 200 crore for the water
distribution project has drawn flak.
Deputy mayor Sanjay Joshi on Tuesday warned of strong agitation against the civic administration's move to mortgage important properties like museums and parks.
The AMC recently offered its 25 prime properties to a bank in the form of co-lateral security against the loan. The civic body is in need of funds for the water distribution project being planned under public private partnership.
The NCP too is against mortgaging the museum.
Executive engineer Sakharam Panzade, however, said only the land of the museum will be mortgaged and not the articles of historical importance kept there.
