BANGALORE: Are ward committees members shunning away from their responsibilities? It has to be believed if the talks on more than 100 ward committee members wanting to tender their resignations.

It can be recalled that the High Court of Karnataka had recently said that it was not just the BBMP commissioner and Mayor's responsibility to ensure clearance of garbage, the responsibility will be fixed on the ward committee members. "If the garbage is not cleared public can lodge a case with the High Court and the take court would initiate appropriate action against the ward committee members," the HC had pointed out, Fearing the stringent action by the court the members of the ward committee are planning to resign. In the wake of this Mayor Venkatesh Murthy said that a meeting will be convened with the elected and nominated.

"The ward committee members are afraid that they might have to face public complaints and legal battle. In many wards, we have not done the selection of members democratically, due to lack of sufficient time. Thus the chosen members are worried and wanting to resign. Such complaints can be politically motivated also. We have called for a meeting to pacify them," said Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy.
