Civic body says Aadhar not compulsory for gas connections, admissions, bank accounts yet
VADODARA: The Vadodara
Municipal Corporation (VMC) has asked citizens not to fall prey to
demands of UID Aadhar cards for various purposes. The civic body has
clarified that furnishing card for any scheme or purpose has not been
made compulsory yet in the city.
The VMC is presently
conducting the process of issuing the cards through its ward offices. It
is also looking to start more centres for the convenience of citizens.
But it came to the notice at these centres that some citizens were
rushing there out of panic after some gas agencies, schools, banks or
other organisations demanded Aadhar cards from those approaching them.
Citizens have been asked to approach the deputy municipal commissioner
(general) of the civic body if the cards are demanded from them. The VMC
has clarified that a pilot project to use the cards was to be taken up
in some districts of the state, but these districts did not include
Vadodara.
The civic body has also stated that the pilot project
too had been held for now. Also, the project would begin first in the
rural areas and only then would cities be included under it. A VMC
release stated that action would also be taken against any organization
that was found misleading citizens on this front.
