Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to initiate action against 11 plumbers

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will take action against 11 plumbers who were caught playing cards while on duty by the special flying squads appointed by municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi.

Pardeshi said, "The special flying squad led by assistant commissioner Satish Kulkarni was conducting surprise inspection in ward no 39 when they found 11 plumbers playing cards in the attendant's room of the water tank in Nehrunagar. The squad also found that while the game of cards was going on, a resident was waiting outside seeking help for some water supply related problem."

He said that strict action will be taken against the plumbers for not executing their duties.

"Kulkarni has submitted his report and action will be taken on it. Some plumbers appeared to be under the influence of alcohol," Pardeshi said.

Pardeshi has directed all the six assistant commissioners to conduct surprise inspections of municipal properties and offices on a weekly basis to check whether the employees and officials working there were performing their duties properly or not. To ensure an element of surprise Pardeshi randomly directs any assistant commissioner in the morning to conduct a surprise inspection in any area of the city.

The assistant commissioner has to submit a report of his findings to the municipal commissioner's office in the evening itself. A special cell has been created in the municipal commissioner's office to keep a computerised record of these reports. It directs the civic officials concerned to take action to remove the shortcomings found during the inspection at the municipal properties and also keeps a record of action taken.
