Corporators upset over BMC circular

MUMBAI: Corporators on Wednesday raised objections to the BMC's circular asking Navratri mandals not to display political hoardings or posters on the road or the footpath. They said this was unjust especially as several hoardings were seen aplenty during Ramzan.

"Why is this not applicable to other festivals? The stretch from Linking Road to S V Road was dotted with banners and posters felicitating people on Ramzan,'' said BJP corporator Ashish Shelar.

Standing committee chairman Ravindra Waikar said some mandals are so small (20 m x 30 m or 20 m x 25 m) that they can barely accommodate the idol. "Will they be allowed to put up hoardings outside?'' he said. As Phatak was in Delhi, the decision on the matter has been deferred.
