BBMP tracks votes through mobile app

The BBMP is using a mobile application which helps sector officers to track the total number of votes polled on an hourly basis in the Assembly election on Sunday.

This, according to the BBMP officials, is the first of its kind technology being used in the country.

The technology is being put to use in seven constituencies in Bangalore South.

Additional district election officer Dr K V Thrilok Chandra told Express that the Poll Tracker Mobile Application (PTMA) will be installed in phones of 101 sector officers which have internet connection.

“There are 1,668 polling stations in seven constituencies, including Vijayanagar, Govindarajanagar, Chamarajpet, Jayanagar, Basavanagudi and Padmanabhanagar,” he said.

He said there are two gateways in this application, one for him  and another for sector officers. Once the sector officers log on, they will have an option to select constituency and polling booths.

“Polling is held between 7 am and 6 pm. We have made a provision to enter data each hour. Sector officers will be given names of polling stations in their jurisdiction for monitoring. They should visit those stations and manually feed the number of male, female and other voters at that particular hour so that I can monitor them,” he said.

On advantages, he said they get a clear picture of voters turnout at any particular hour.

“If voters use option 49 O (that is, voter deciding not to vote), we  will get an overall idea,” he added.

He said the PTMA has been developed by K Srinivas, a software engineer working on contract basis with the BBMP.
