Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation election to be held on June 7

PUNE: Elections to the posts of chairperson of the four committees of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation(PCMC) will be held on June 7.

The four committees of PCMC are law, city improvement, sports and women and child welfare committees. The nominations for the elections to the posts of chairperson of these four committees were filed on Friday. Vaishali Jawalkar, Asha Supe, Ramdas Bokad and Shubhangi Londhe belonging to the ruling Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) filed their nominations for the posts of chairperson of law, city improvement, sports and women and child welfare committees.

No candidate from the opposition parties have filed their nominations. So the elections to these posts will be held unopposed. A formal announcement will be made on June 7.

There are nine members in each committee. Six of these members belong to the ruling NCP while one member each belongs to the Congress, independents group and Shiv Sena. A party must have at least three members in the committee so that its candidate can submit his nomination as there is a need for signatures of candidate, one person proposing the candidate, and supporter for submitting the nomination. A few months back, the members of all the committees were elected. The election of new members of the standing committee and the chairman was held in March.
