Centralised counting facility for PMC polls, results today

For the first time in the corporation elections, a centralised counting facility has been set up to enable the online viewing of election results of the Panchkula Municipal Corporation on Tuesday. The counting of votes will held at the community centre in Sector 14.

State Election Commissioner Dharam Veer said that it was for the first time that a centralised counting facility had been set up during the corporation elections on the lines of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. "The counting will start around 8 am and we expect it to get over in three-four hours,'' he said.

The counting of results will be available on the Election Commission website and a live update of the counting will be made available. Dharam Veer said electronic voting machines had been deposited at the counting centre and the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras had been put in place to ensure free and fair counting. "We are putting in place adequate security arrangements for the counting. A three-tier security set-up is being set up," he said.

The State Election Commissioner said for the counting, the Election Commission was also maintaining log books at the counting centre so that the officials could record their entries. "The counting results will be routed to the cyber centre maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) at the Mini-Secretariat from where the results will be updated constantly on the Election Commission website," said an official.

The website had been made user-friendly and ward-wise counting results could be accessed by the people, officials added.
