Pay revision for municipal staff likely

Special Correspondent

Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali has said that the government is actively considering a proposal to revise the salaries and benefits of municipal employees to the level of State government employees.

At a press conference here on Thursday, he said Kerala would constitute an ‘Apartments Regulatory Authority’ within two months to check real estate foul play and protect apartment buyers.

The authority would be an institution under the Central Act governing the subject, but the State government would soon bring before the Assembly a Bill that would have provisions covering the Kerala situation.

All-party meet

On the danger posed by garbage problem in Thiruvananthapuram in the context of the monsoon, the Minister said he would convene an all-party meeting within a week to work out a solution.

He said he was especially unhappy about the attitude of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, which had been shirking its responsibility for long.

The government had constituted an expert committee to propose appropriate technology for tackling the garbage issue. The committee would give its report before this month-end, he said.
