GUNTUR: With several corporators voicing their concern over the pathetic condition of roads at the general body meeting held on Thursday, Mayor Rayapati Mohana Sai Krishna said that the GMC would tap funds from HUDCO and take up road laying works.
The proposal to give the city roads a new face-lift has already been sent to the Ministry of Urban Development and a final clearance is expected shortly, the Mayor said.
Among the issues that came up for discussions included, revamping the existing defunct under ground drainage system, new rules for setting hoardings and cell towers and the poor maintenance of various parks.
MLA (East) Sk. Mastan Vali pointed out that the existing drainage system has come of his age and wanted a plan of action to revamp the UGD. He said that city has only 25 km. UGD network and observed that on a rainy day, Guntur might turn up into a mess like other metro cities.
Congress corporator Punuri Nageswara Rao displayed some pictures of parks and said that the parks have been poorly maintained.
He said that apart from few shrubs, the parks did not have trees. Raising the issue of examiner being not provided basic facilities like car and an office room, the corporator sought an explanation from the officials.
Municipal Commissioner K. Ilambarthi said that no officer was being discriminated and added that the Commissioner has the sole discretion to provide facilities for officers.
