Awareness campaign on GHMC citizen’s charter

Staff Reporter

A public awareness campaign on the GHMC citizen’s charter was launched by a few city-based civil society organisations here on Wednesday. The character was adopted by the State government and the GHMC in June with an aim to check the inordinate delay in attending to complaints made to the civic authorities by the citizens.

As part of the campaign the organisations will conduct meetings in residential colonies, educational institutions and public places to sensitise the public about it. Also pamphlets comprising details of the citizen charter will be distributed to the public, said V.B.J. Rao Chelikani, a civil society activist. A total of nine NGOs have joined hands for the campaign.

Mazher Hussain of COVA said only intentions would not guarantee the results but there should be implementation of the character effectively. “The GHMC should create awareness about it,” Mr. Mazher said. The citizen charter entitles the complainant for compensation in case the civic body fails to adhere to the timeframe , B. Ramakrishna Raju, an activist.
