Staff Reporter

A commemorative meeting passed a resolution urging Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to install a bronze statue of former mayor T. Venkateswara Rao, popularly known as TV, in the city.

A meeting of former corporators, mayors, deputy mayors, and standing committees’ chairmen was held here on Monday. The participants paid rich tributes to TV, the first mayor of the city.

The meeting also resolved that a bronze statue of TV should be installed at a prominent place and also that an appropriate locality should be named after TV, as T. Venkateswara Rao Nagar. They wanted the T. Venkateswara Chowk at Chuttugunta be developed.

CPI leader and former MLA K. Subba Raju wrote a letter to Municipal Commissioner Ch. Hari Kiran urging him to take necessary steps in this regard.

Stating that the Corporation used to organise children’s day and cultural competitions, Mr. Subba Raju requested the Commissioner to revive them. The VMC should take necessary steps to send invitations to former corporators, former mayors etc to the functions organised by the Corporation, he added.
