Municipal commissioner to represent Surat in climate change meet in New York

SURAT: Municipal Commissioner Manoj Das will represent Surat city in a one day meet to be held in New York on December 4. The meet is organized by Rockefeller foundation in which 100 selected city representatives would participate to discuss different issues related to climate change.

"In the meet the selected cities would be felicitated for their work done to develop resilient strategies against climate change," said Jatin Shah, city engineer, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC)

Surat is one of the selected cities and ranks among the top due to it's development of end to end early warning system for floods, for setting up Urban Health Climate Resilience Center(UHCRC) and setting up of all weather stations.

Surat received Rs 2 crore as funding from Rockefeller Foundation for setting up of climate change trust.

The cities funding for activities of development of climate change resilience is likely to increase after the meet along with few other cities of the world.

Surat is one of the ten sister cities of Asian Cities Climate change Resilience Network(ACCCRN) and has been in fore front of issues related to climate change in the country.
