Civic body to award scholarships to pupils

NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to award scholarships to municipal school students scoring more than 60% in their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) 2013 board exams.

The civic body has taken the move in order to motivate merit holders and encourage other students to perform well.

Deputy municipal commissioner and education officer, Dattatreya Gotise, said, "The scholarships will be conferred to students of NMC schools, who have scored above 60%. Around 171 students will be granted the scholarship under this scheme."

He added, "A scholarship of Rs 4,000 will be given to those who have scored between 60-70% in their SSC board exams and Rs 5,000 to those who have scored between 70-80%. Those scoring above 80% will receive a scholarship of Rs 6,000."

The officer added that students in VIII and IX standards in NMC schools should strive to achieve the feat and earn scholarships as well. "The scholarships will encourage all the students studying in NMC schools. It will also create a competitive spirit among students and enhance their performance as well."

He also said that the formalities to for the scholarship are in the final stages.

"The NMC has a total of 127 primary and secondary schools and ten high schools. The scholarships will be awarded to the students who passed out of these ten schools as they are eligible under this scheme. We started standard VIII classes in three more schools, this year. So in all we have 13 high schools now," said Gotise.
