BMC polls: 29 nominations filed on third day

On the third day of filing of nominations, as many as 29 candidates from various political parties filed their papers for the ensuing January 8 Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls on Wednesday here at the Bhubaneswar Additional District Magistrate (ADM) office.

The candidates accompanied by their supporters reached the ADM office in processions and submitted their nominations to the ADM-cum-Election Officer Manoj Kumar Pattnaik.

“Filing of nominations is going on smoothly. During the submission of candidatures, we too conduct preliminary scrutiny of the nominations,” said Patnaik. Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and in-charge of party’s BMC polls Biswa Bhusan Harichandan said, “The party has already announced its candidates’ list and they will submit their nominations on Thursday and Friday, the last day of the filing of nominations.”

Panchyati Raj Minister and chief of the BJD poll campaign committee for BMC polls Kalpataru Das said the party has already finalised its candidates’ list and they would filed their nominations in next two days.

Similarly, Bhubaneswar Zilla Congress unit president Manoranjan Das said the party candidates are filing their nominations in a phased manner.

On Tuesday, six nominations were filed. The last date for filing of nomination is December 20.
