PCMC using biometric attendance system

PUNE: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started biometric attendance system for some of its departments at its main office building on a trial basis.

Speaking to TOI on Tuesday, Ashish Sharma, municipal commissioner, said the utility of the system is being checked through the trials. "We have not received any complaints about the attendance of the civic employees. But, we have started it on our own to improve the attendance. It will record the attendance in more efficient manner. We will check the performance of the system for a month," Sharma said. The system will later be used for the entire building and in other zonal offices in the PCMC limits, he added.

Sudhakar Deshmukh, assistant commissioner and chief of administration department, PCMC, said, "One firm has installed the device free of cost. The device verifies the thumb impression of the employee." Currently, 120 employees working in various civic departments on the fourth floor are making use of the system."

Work of registering the thumb impression and details of each of the employees working on fourth floor is in progress and will be completed in the next two days.
