Several local bodies to be reconstituted

 

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a move apparently to gain upper hand in the elections to the local bodies to be held next year, the Cabinet on Wednesday decided to reconstitute various local bodies.

As part of the decision the Cabinet has decided to upgrade seven grama panchayats into municipalities. They are Karunagappally in Kollam district, Thrikkakara, Eloor and Maradu in Eranakulam district, Kottakkal and Nilambur in Malappuram district and Neeleswaram in Kasargod district. This was announced by the Chief Minister at the post-Cabinet briefing.

The Cabinet also decided to attach Sreekariyam, Vattiyoorkavu, Kudappanakunnu and Kazhakkoottam grama panchayats to Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

Elathur, Cheruvannoor, Nallalam and Beypore grama panchayats will be attached to Kozhikode Corporation.

It also decided to attach Nattakam and Kumaranalloor grama panchayats to Kottayam municipality, Thiruvankulam panchayat to Thripunithura municipality, Pookodu and Thycadu panchayats to Guruvayoor municipality, Purathisserry panchayat to Irinjalakkuda municipality and Methala to Kodungalloor municipality.
