PMC prepares for mayor elections

The political activities of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have gained momentum after it was clear that the post would be available to candidates from the open general category for the next 26 months. The neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will also be able to elect a mayor from the general category.

This follows the announcement of reservations of mayoral posts in several other municipal corporations of the state.

As per the government notification, the mayoral post has a term of 30 months. However, the Assembly elections had delayed the appointment of a new mayor after the previous term expired in July.

The NCP is the single largest party in the PMC.
