Vijayawada, Warangal get new civic chiefs

The State government transferred 11 more IAS officers on Thursday. Vijayawada and Warangal municipal corporations will get new commissioners.

AR Sukumar, who has been awaiting posting, was appointed principal secretary, public enterprises department.

JS Venkateswara Prasad, commissioner of Intermediate education, was posted as principal secretary, food processing and textiles in the industries and commerce dept.

Adhar Sinha, waiting for posting, is the new commissioner of Intermediate education. Movva Tirumala Krishna Babu, waiting for posting, is made secretary, infrastructure and investment.

B Kishore, commissioner and director of survey, settlements and land records, was appointed as project director, AP Aids Control Society. GD Priyadarshini, additional commissioner, GHMC, is given posting as director, AP Academy of Rural Development.

M Jagannadham, waiting for posting, is appointed as joint secretary, state Secretariat. Gorrela Suvarna Panda Das, municipal commissioner of Vijayawada, was posted as commissioner, Warangal municipal Corporation.

Chevvuru Hari Kiran, sub-collector at Madanepalli in Chittoor district, was made commissioner of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Narayana Bharath Gupta, sub-collector of Bhadrachalam in Khammam district, is the new sub-collector of Madanepalli.

Bharati Hollikeri, project officer, ITDA, Plain Areas, was appointed as the executive director, AP State Housing Corporation Ltd.

New GHMC Commissioner to focus on bad roads, slums

Somesh Kumar on Wednesday took over as Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and said all the good work done by his predecessor M. T. Krishna Babu would be taken forward.

Priority areas

Speaking to presspersons after taking charge, Mr. Kumar listed out his priorities for the city which included repairs of roads badly affected due to the rains, ensuring speedy redressal of citizens’ grievances and strengthening the decentralisation initiatives.

He underscored the need for the civic body to emerge as a nodal unit for all the other departments and promised to focus on the slums and the poor in the city. The Old City too needed much attention, he conceded.

Mr. Krishna Babu said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which had Rs.490 crore overdraft not only strove to overcome it but managed to reached a comfortable position.

Clearance of the contractors’ bills which used to take months was now taken up on weekly basis and those related to projects, on the same day. Through various initiatives each penny was streamlined and best efforts were made to usher in transparency in the civic body, Mr. Krishna Babu claimed.

To focus on road repairs, speedy grievance redressal and strengthening decentralisation initiatives.

Former Kochi Mayor dead

A.K. Sheshadri, 81, former Kochi Mayor who had played a crucial role in the development of Kochi city, died here on Wednesday. He was the fifth Mayor of Kochi. A lawyer by profession, Sheshadri had also served as the last chairman of Kochi Municipality. He was also actively involved in the development of Greater Cochin area too. He had served as the president of the Ernakulam Bar Association and vice-president of All India Mayors’ Council. Funeral was held at Ravipuram crematorium.
