Voters’ list error: Civic body gets 1,500 plaints

In response to the ward wise voters’ list notified by the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) on April 22 last inviting suggestions from the voters for correction, the BMC reportedly received more than 1,500 complaints pertaining to non-availability of names in voters’ list, change of polling booths, names of voters of a single family found at several places and a host of similar discrepancies.

The last date for receiving the complaints was Thursday on which the highest 812 voters, mostly from ward (4), complained of discrepancies. While 414 voters of ward (4) complained that their name did not figure in the voters’ list, more than 70 alleged that their names were arbitrarily placed under other wards.

According to the BMC sources, only after a close scrutiny and examination of the complaints, a decision would be taken to make necessary corrections in the list.

Candidates who have devised inventive ways like luring candidates by remitting money to the voters’ account to avoid detection might land in a soup as the officials concerned are probing such violations.

According to a release by BBMP, its commissioner Siddaiah has received information about some candidates trying to lure voters by offering to remit money to their bank accounts.

The officials concerned have been instructed to collect details of all the bank transactions made by candidates and their supporters in the past few days from certain banks.
