PATNA: Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday directed the officials concerned to accord top priority to construction of drainages, roads and parks under Mukhyamantri Nagar Vikas Yojana. Modi, who holds the additional charge of urban development department, reviewed the execution of urban development schemes at a high-level meeting.

Reviewing the works undertaken by the department here, Modi said that the state government would soon allow construction of foot overbridges in prominent cities of the state after making necessary amendments in the existing provision. There is need of foot overbridges in many cities as there was much pressure on different roads, he pointed out.

Modi said that under the Yojana, Rs 600 crore has been sanctioned during 2008-11 for development of major cities of the state. He said that besides making available Rs 600 crore to 138 urban local bodies, an additional Rs 200 crore would be sanctioned for the purpose.

The officials informed the deputy CM that for supply of drinking water to areas falling under 32 urban local bodies, the PHED has been given Rs 123.82 crore against the sanctioned amount of Rs 224.92 crore and the utilization certificate of Rs 88.24 crore has been received.

Modi asked the officials of the department and public health engineering department (PHED) to check the implementation of the different schemes. He also directed the officials concerned to ask the PHED to provide utilization certificate for rest of the amount. He also directed the officials to accelerate the work of drilling of handpumps on the recommendations of the MLAs.

Modi hoped that after the appointment of 124 city managers on contract, the works on different projects under the department would accelerate. It may be mentioned here that the interview for appointment of city managers has already been held and results might be declared by the end of this month.

Modi said that a two-day state-level meeting of executive officials of urban local bodies would be convened on July 5 to review the implementation of different projects.
