Panchkula:  After Panchkula Extension (I), the Haryana Urban Development Authority is on an expansion spree with development in Alipur and Kot-Behla Urban Complex on way. The project, which forms the second part of the extension, is scheduled to be completed by 2021.

Spread across an area of over 6,500 acres, Panchkula Extension (II) would cater to a projected population of around four lakh. Alipur would be spread across eight urban sectors, while Kot-Behla would have around 16 sectors specified for development. While a total area of approximately 2,800 acres has been earmarked for residential areas in both Alipur and Kot-Behla, the commercial and industrial parts have been allotted around 250 acres.

Only non-polluting units will be allowed to come up in the three sectors marked in Kot-Behla urban complex, while a faction of the industrial estate of Alipur has been reserved for development of information technology. A sector has also been earmarked for IT in Kot-Behla. The plan for Alipur-controlled area will comprise of villages, Khangsera, Toka, Khatauli, Jalauli, Nagal, Sukhdarshanpur and Alipur.

Talking about the project, officials in the District and Town Planning department said with the layout plan ready, the department was finalising the details and hoped to start with the land acquisition by the beginning of next year. “The township has been expanding rapidly in terms of urbanisation and industrialisation. These two areas would not only solve the problem of housing but also invite commercial initiatives,” he said.

To cater to commercial requirements of the areas, two centres have also been proposed, apart from a transport depot, telephone exchange and broadcasting station in Kot-Behla. Kot-Behla and Alipur will have 13 and three sectors respectively for residential purposes. Wide green belts along both sides of Panchkula-Barwala road and in internal sectors have also been proposed. A flyover for better connectivity and smooth flow of traffic on National Highway 73 is also on the cards.
