‘Rs.600 cr. to develop Kadapa district'

Special Correspondent

KADAPA: Kadapa Mayor P. Raveendranatha Reddy asserted on Wednesday that Kadapa Municipal Corporation was striving relentlessly to develop infrastructure in Kadapa city and said that Rs. 600 crore was being spent to develop the district.

Presiding over the corporation general body meeting, the Mayor announced cancellation of a contract awarded to Sai Maurya Infrastructure Private Ltd. in June 2008 for construction of a mega shopping mall on old RIMS premises. The contract was cancelled as the firm was yet to start work on the shopping mall, though it was scheduled for completion by now, within 36 months and failed to pay the lease amount to the corporation, he said.

Referring to sanitation in Kadapa city, MLC P. Subba Reddy resented unbridled dumping of garbage collected in rickshaws in the Buggavanka stream, posing health hazards to people living in neighbouring areas in its vicinity.

The Mayor warned sanitary workers of stern action if they continued to dump garbage in the stream.

Corporators Putha Venkatasubba Reddy, M.V.R. Prasad Reddy, Karim Jilani, Shamsher and Maqbul Basha alleged that people in Indiramma colonies at Azadnagar, Cherlopalle and Ukkayapalli were facing hardships owing to improper drinking water, drainage and power supply.

Replying to a query by a corporator Harinarayana on reports of irregularities in sanction of pucca houses at Alamkhanpalle, the housing DE said an inquiry was in progress and cases would be registered against those guilty.

The meeting resolved to give no objection certificates to allot 12.26 cents of land in Mamillapalle panchayat to government drivers.
