Godavari project: HUDCO agrees to sanction Rs. 1,000 crore

Special Correspondent

The cash-strapped Godavari project is expected to gain momentum with the HUDCO agreeing in principle to sanction Rs. 1000 crore. A letter of sanction has been issued to the Water Board. The Board, however, has to fulfil formalities like documentation. The project christened as Moulana Abdul Kalam Hyderabad Sujala Sravanthi Scheme aims at transmitting 10 tmcft (172 mgd) of raw water from Yellampally barrage to augment drinking water supply to the Hyderabad urban agglomeration.

The Board also plans to seek an additional Rs. 1,000 crore from HUDCO. Paucity of funds has halted the progress of the Rs. 3,800 crore project.
