RMC plans health insurance scheme launch from July 12

RAJKOT: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) will be implementing a plan under the National Health Insurance Scheme. It would cover more then 77,000 urban poor families residing in various parts of Rajkot city. The civic body plans to start work on the scheme from July 12. As per the scheme, for a premium of just Rs 30, five members of a family are provided medical cover of Rs 30,000 annually. The families can avail the facilities at 12 major multi-specialty hospitals in Rajkot.

RMC's standing committee chairman Narendra Solanki said, initially this scheme will be implemented in ward numbers 1, 3 and 5 where majority of poor and BPL families reside. The insurance company teams will camp in these areas from Tuesday and issue smart cards. Digital thumb impressions and digital photo for smart cards will be conducted in the respective areas for the convenience of residents.

Solanki said, "RMC health department will encourage BPL families to go for this insurance scheme and will make them understand its benefits. The private insurance company has tied up with top 12 multi-specialty hospitals of the city in various areas. And all the work and expenses of smart card making will be borne by the insurance company."
