Positive response from Shettar to Rs. 695-cr. proposal: Mayor

 Hubli-Dharwad Mayor Pandurang Patil said on Thursday that Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had given a positive response to the Rs. 695-crore proposal submitted by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation seeking funds for development works. He was speaking to presspersons here.

It might be recalled that a delegation led by Dr. Patil had submitted a proposal to the Chief Minister in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Dr. Patil said under the proposal, Rs. 160 crore was sought for creation of basic infrastructure in all wards of the municipal corporation, including development of slums and villages.

Flyover

Dr. Patil said Rs. 140 crore was sought for construction of flyovers , while Rs. 100 crore each was sought for development of 400 gardens and stormwater drains in the twin cities. He said Rs. 25 crore was sought for the development of Eco Park at Navalur village and Rs. 30 crore for a ropeway between Nrupatunga Hill and Unkal Lake Park.

The municipal corporation had sought Rs. 5 crore for the development of a road stretch between Unkal Cross and Kamaripet police station via Unkal, Hosur, Gokul Road, Karwar Road, and old P.B. Road. Similarly, funds were sought for development of graveyards, community toilets, construction of indoor stadium, corporation offices, and so on. Dr. Patil said in addition, an allocation of Rs. 100 crore was sought for improvement of underground drainage system in the twin cities.

Priority works

Dr. Patil said under the proposal, a list of priority works for the overall development of Hubli-Dharwad had been submitted.

“We have sought steps to expedite works on the four-lane between Hubli-Dharwad, the Bus Rapid Transport System, proposal on the monorail, apart from others. We have highlighted the need for widening of main roads in the twin cities, including the stretch from Gabbur Cross to Kittur Chennamma Circle, Dharwad old bus station to Hebasur Road and Savadatti Road,” he said.

The other priority works include construction of at least four sports complexes, ring roads, subways at Kittur Chennamma Circle and Dharwad old bus-station, another swimming pool in Hubli, 125-acre park at Navalur village, and development of markets in the twin cities, he said.

To a query, Dr. Patil said the municipal corporation was hopeful of getting funds and it would take another four to five years to execute the works.
