New look for Necklace Road, thanks to CoP-11

As the city, albeit belatedly, starts to gear up for the international convention on biodiversity (CoP-11), the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has begun to focus on beautification of its projects.

For the event scheduled to be held from October 1 to 19 and drawing a large contingent of international delegates, the HMDA has been provided with a budget of Rs.15 crore to present a refurbished image of its projects in the city.

A major initiative towards this is the beautification works at Necklace Road, PVNR Elevated Expressway and Langer Houz flyover. The existing wall in front of People’s Plaza till the Necklace Road railway station will be adorned with mural designs with concepts that go with the event theme.

Similar works will be taken up on selected spaces for the elevated expressway and the flyover at Langer Houz. The HMDA has decided to have the mural works executed in cement, sand and fibre medium with weather resistant coatings for external applications.

The HMDA maintains Lumbini Park and NTR Gardens and they too will get a new look. Some initiatives planned now include fixing glasses to the pyramids on the main entrance at NTR Gardens, renovation of car café building and toilet block here apart from providing a fresh coat of painting to electrical poles along the Necklace Road.
