Developmental projects to be prioritised

VARANASI: The Varanasi division will take up planned development of the city and adjoining districts, including Ghazipur and Chandauli, on a priority basis. Divisional commissioner Chanchal Kumar Tiwari held a meeting on Monday to discuss the projects. During the meeting, bridge corporation engineer said that the construction of a bridge at Samne Ghat was already underway. The commissioner also reviewed the ongoing construction work at Assi Ghat. Out of Rs 27.27 crore sanctioned for the project in 2009, Rs 9 crore have been utilized so far, the commissioner was told by officers.

Besides, proposal for construction of Malviya Ghat, Lohiya Ghat and Rajnarayan Ghat near the Assi Ghat has been sent to the government for approval. Another Rs 108 crore project for construction of a flyover from Chowkaghat to Lehartara too has been sent for government approval. Meanwhile, a detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared on Varanasi-Ghazipur road for a four lane route. The data will also be provided to the forest department to attain a no objection certificate after counting the trees of the planned area.

For the establishment of Gahzipur Industrial Institute, the problems pertaining to a 200 acre land demanded by UPSIDC should be rectified, directed the commissioner. He also asked the concerned officials to ensure the completion of construction of 'Grass to Glass' dairy complex in Ghazipur district. He also asked the district magistrates of Varanasi and Chandauli to prepare a proposal and an estimate of Rs 200 crore development projects announced by the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav during his recent visit to these districts. The commissioner was not happy with the slow pace of the construction of the Chandali Collectorate building and asked the concerned official to speed up the work.
