Civic projects worth Rs 2.2 cr for new west zone

AHMEDABAD: Recently, AMC gave the go ahead to a slew of projects worth Rs 2.23 crore concerning civic utilities in the new west zone. Among the prime concerns of AMC are water supply and drainage lines in areas like Shilaj, Sola, Bodakdev, Jodhpur gam, Thatej and Vejalpur.

Residents in these areas have been complaining for a long time about damaged roads and water supply lines. In some areas like Sola and Shilaj PVC pipes were laid for water supply. However, they gave away with time.

In Jodhpur gam, AMC will lay new water supply lines between Gallops and Sanidhi Bungalows and another between Ishwarcharan Complex and Ashok Nagar. A third line is being laid between Ashwakunj crossroads and Satyam mall. Water distribution system near Chandrapuri tank has also been proposed. Shilaj and Sola gam areas will get new water supply lines. AMC has also earmarked chawls in Vejalpur area which have been complaining of pollution in drinking water.

AMC will also lay new sewerage lines from Shivaganga Bungalows to Sahjanand Apartments. Besides, larger drainage issues lie in the newly merged Chandlodia and Ghatlodia areas. In both these areas drainage lines were of a lesser width and needed to be replaced with pipes of 600 mm diameter. In Chandlodia AMC has also passed a budget for immediate resurfacing of roads which were dug up while laying storm water drains.

"Most of these projects are being funded under JNNURM. These areas have long been demanding a composite drainage and water supply network after they were included in AMC limits," said a senior AMC officer in the new west zone.
