Rs 185-crore VMC projects get JNNURM nod

VADODARA: Development work in the city got a shot in the arm with detailed project reports (DPR) amounting to Rs 185 crore being cleared under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Projects for supply of water to areas that were added recently to Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits and those for strengthening the storm water drain network in the city were cleared under JNNURM at a meeting in Delhi on Tuesday.

According to VMC sources, the water supply network in several areas that were added recently to VMC was very weak. The situation was particularly bad in panchayat areas like Chhani, Kapurai, Sayajipura and Harni villages on city outskirts. VMC proposes to add new tanks and pipeline networks in these areas for 24-hour water supply. All these works have been cleared under JNNURM.

The civic body had laid DPRs for strengthening Bhukhi storm water drain with masonry work. Similar proposals were also made for Kalali, Novino-Jambuva, Maneja-Makarpura, Gotri-Bhayli, Tarsali-Ruparel and Undera-Gotri storm water drains.

The civic body has also proposed to put slabs on artificial storm water drains. Officials said that nearly 70 per cent of the city will be covered with the works that are being done at present.
