VMC gets more funds under JNNURM

Mayor expresses gratitude to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah


VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has received additional fund to the tune of Rs. 45.27 crore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

“Responding favourably to our plea for release of JNNURM funds, the Chief Minister released Rs. 45 crore on Tuesday.

The amount will be utilised for rehabilitation of flood victims along the Krishna river bed and Budameru rivulet, besides implementation of infrastructure development project in the Corporation limits,” Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu told a press conference on Wednesday.

The VMC had already received funds to the tune of Rs. 15 crore in the recent past for augmentation of water supply utility under JNNURM phase- II, detailed designs and estimations for Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) in circle –II and detailed designs and estimations for Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) in circles II and III. With Tuesday’s release, the VMC has so far received funds to the tune of Rs. 60 crore under the Central Government scheme, against the earmarked sum of Rs. 145 crores, she said.

The Mayor expressed gratitude to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, district in-charge Minister Pedireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Parthasarathy, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and Congress MLA Malladi Vishnu for playing a vital role in securing development grants allocated by the Centre for implementation of developmental activities.

She said people’s representatives must rise above party lines and contribute their mite to developing the city.

Deputy Mayor Siripurapu Philip Gritton, Congress floor leader in the VMC general body M. Rajeswara Rao, former Deputy Mayor Samanthapudi Narasaraju and others were present.
