Maharashtra secures maximum JNNURM funds

Efforts by the Congress-led government in Maharashtra to mobilise more funds under the Centre’s flagship Jawaharlal Nehru National Renewal Urban Mission (JNNURM) have paid off. Maharashtra has been able to get maxi-mum funds of Rs 1,358.20 crore for four pilot schemes under JNNURM and Rs 1,459.44 crore under the Bharat Nirman scheme for 2009-10.
Since the inception of the JNNURM scheme in 2005, the state has received the highest disbursement of Rs 6,672.48 crore so far.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken special interest in improving infrastructure and administration under the Sub-Mission on Urban Infrastructure Governance (SMUIG). Maharashtra has also taken a lead under SMUIG with a funding of Rs 892.65 crore, followed by Gujarat Rs 477.84 crore and Uttar Pradesh 477.06 crore.
Under the Urban Infrastructure Development of Small and Medium Towns Sub-Mission under JNNURM, Maharashtra has received maximum funding of Rs 140.72 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh (Rs 109.94 crore) and Tamil Nadu (Rs 19.35 crore).
