Pune: In order to expedite different projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal has requested the union government to provide funds of Rs 10,000 crore. Rajpal has written a request letter to the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia in this regard.

Thanking the union government for including Pune in the list of JNNURM cities, Rajpal has written that the money is required to put in place civic amenities for attracting investments from industries, and for implementing various JNNURM projects including river improvement, water supply, transport and mobility including construction of flyovers, BRTS, Metro Rail, Ring Road and also for solving the solid waste management.

In the letter, Rajpal has written, “Since all the projects have immense importance for improving the quality of life in the city and for mobility planning and environment sustainability, the financial help from the JNNURM would certainly help.”

Talking to The Indian Express , Rajpal said, “The total requirement for these projects is Rs 10,000 crore, we hope the union government would give the entire amount. The river improvement would require Rs 1000 crore. Also each of the 12 to 15 flyovers proposed in the city would require about Rs 100 crore each.”

Rajpal said that about two months ago, he had made a similar request to Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for releasing the state’s share of JNNURM funds.
