Owner of 4 cars blames MCD for lack of parking

Name: Surender Khandelwal
Occupation: Businessman
Resident of: D.B. Gupta Road, Karol Bagh

When friends or relatives are slated to come to meet the Khandelwals, the family spends more time “arranging for parking space” than it spends on “preparing food”.

“We need to create some space for them so they can park their cars lest it is towed away. It has happened in the past and becomes very embarrassing," says Surender Khandelwal.

A resident of Karol Bagh, he struggles to park the four cars he owns outside his house.“Our street was declared commercial by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and we had deposited parking charges too,” he says. “But till date no parking facility is available to us. We have six members in the family and naturally the number of cars has been increasing. But the space to accommodate them has been shrinking."

Khandelwal recalls instances when his cars parked on the main road were towed away. “We can’t park our cars inside our flats, can we? There is no provision for parking cars in residential areas.

I have been challaned a number of times by the traffic police too,” he added. The matter has been made worse after the closure of a surface parking lot in Shastri Park.
