Rajasthan to develop new townships

State Cabinet nod for the new policy

JAIPUR: A new township policy accompanied by a residential housing special scheme policy to be adopted shortly in Rajasthan is expected to promote housing facilities and attract investments to the housing and construction sectors in the State in a big way. The State Cabinet approved the policy at its meeting here this past week.

Urban Development Minister Shanti Dhariwal said here that the policy would also strengthen the State's economy by encouraging construction activities in new townships and development of new residential areas.

The township policy has been divided into two parts, one catering to mini-township schemes measuring between 10 and 20 hectares and the other dedicated to big township schemes exceeding 20 hectares.

Mr. Dhariwal said the developers of the schemes measuring over 10 hectares would be required to construct houses on 10 per cent of the plots and submit detailed project report to the urban local body for development of basic amenities.

The houses constructed for low-income groups will be handed over to the local body, which will allot them to the eligible persons. The developers will also be required to get themselves registered with the municipal body concerned.

The Minister said the houses can be constructed under the new policy in the industrial areas managed by the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) as well. The plots measuring 10 hectares lying vacant after allotment can be included in the township policy if there is no construction on them and there is no revival plan in place for them.
