BMC demolishes illegal stalls at fair
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation  has demolished over 100 illegal stalls outside Mount Mary Church for the week-long Bandra fair held in September every year. The civic body used full force to demolish the illegal stalls over the weekend after directives from the Bombay High Court on Wednesday, after Bandra residents had moved court.

As per the circular issued by the civic body, only 165 hawkers are allowed in four lanes for the eight days. However, more than 300 hawkers encroach 12 lanes for 10 days.

M M Kshirsagar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of H east ward said, "We have removed more than 100 hawkers in two days."

Residents had also challenged the BMC’s move to grant licenses to 165 hawkers, contending that the area around the church was a no-hawking zone.  The court rejected this  as it will disappoint thousands of devotees.
