BBMP goes on a banner clean-up drive

Bangalore, Sept 14, DHNS:

Keeping in pace with the rising number of illegal hoardings, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) brought down as many as 487 banners, buntings, cut-outs and flex boards in the eight zones of its jurisdiction on Monday night alone.

The BBMP will continue the drive for the next one week to rid the landscape of Bangalore of illegal flex boards, hoardings and banners.

According to the figures provided by the BBMP, 200 banners were removed along Tannery Road (ward 29) in the East zone. In the West zone, 70 banners, 45 flex boards and 100 meter-long buntings were removed in Malleswaram, Dr Rajkumar Road, Rajajinagar, Yeshwanthpur, Srirampura, Majestic, Seshadripuram, Cottonpet, Gandhinagar and Avenue Road. Across South zone, 21 banners, 35 buntings, 12 cut-outs were brought down. In R R Nagar, 30 banners, three flex boards and six cloth banners were removed.

Land recovered

BDA on Tuesday demolished shops and sheds which had cropped up in two acres of its land in Nagarbhavi ward. As many as 150 BDA and police personnel carried out the demolition and recovered property estimated to be worth Rs 40 crore.
