BMC comes down hard on squatters in market areas

Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Cracking down on encroachers at busy market areas of the State capital, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Sunday removed a number of sheds, counters, built-up areas exceeding the permissible limits and seized over two truck loads of material from Rang Mahal, Jawahar Chowk and MLA Quarters areas.

Additional Commissioner Kumar Purushottam and officials of the district police supervised the inquiry that continued for hours using JCB, cutting machines.

Meanwhile, in a separate drive, officials of the Project Wing of the Corporation removed four dairies being operated from Bagh Sawenia area of the city.

The inquiry was carried out after receiving directions by Bhopal Mayor Krishna Gaur in this regard. Notably, the BMC has been making efforts to shift all dairies being operated from within the city for past some time now.

A provision of allotting land areas on subsidised rates has also been made for the purpose. However, the efforts are yet to yield the desired results, as dairy operators are reluctant to shift from the places they have been operating for years.
