CMC to conduct survey on encroachment of govt land

The City Municipal Council (CMC) has decided to conduct a survey in the Council limits at the earliest to ascertain the encroachment of government land.
Addressing the general body meet of the Council on Tuesday which was presided over by City Municipal Council President P D Ponnappa, Municipal Commissioner K Srikanth Rao said that the Task Force had written to the Council recently to ascertain the government land encroached in the Council limits. Hence, the survey will be undertaken at the earliest.
Eviction
The Council has decided to evict only those petty shops, which pose impediment to execution of developmental works. Congress members T M Ayyappa, BJP leaders Vasanth Keshav and Independent member Muneer Ahmed said that if all the petty shops are evicted, then the people for whom the shops are the only source of income will be thrown into dire straits. Hence, the Council must look at the issue from humanitarian angle and evict only those petty shops which come in the way of execution of developmental works. Standing Committee President T S Prakash endorsed the Congress members’ view and said that the resolution passed by the Council earlier must be rectified. The House approved the same. Council President P D Ponnappa said that as resolved by the House, only those petty shops, which will have to inevitably evicted will be pulled down.
Punish contractor
Members Muneer Ahmed and K T Baby Mathew said that the contractor who has got the contract of parking near Raja Seat park has been collecting more than the stipulated amount as parking fee. They said that action must be taken against the contractor.
Ponnappa directing the Council officials to look into the matter said that stern action will be taken against the contractor, if found guilty. He warned that the tender given to the contractor will be withdrawn in case locals complaint that additional parking fee is being collected at Raja Seat.
Rs 22 lakh at disposal
The Council decided to utilise the available funds of Rs 22 lakh for repair of houses belonging to BPL families, providing tap water connection and to give boost to education among the BPL family children. About 60 per cent of the fund will be for developmental works while 40 per cent will be used for educational and medical aid.
