MCD cracks down on new violators

New Delhi:  The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has begun a major demolition drive against all unauthorised structures that sprang up across the Capital while most of its staff were busy with the Commonwealth Games. The MCD has started its demolition rive in the central zone and will take it across the rest of the 11 municipal zones in the coming weeks.

The Corporation has demolished over 30 unauthorised structures across areas like Huaz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Sarita Vihar, Amar Colony and Govindpuri. “The police force was not available during several days due to the Games to demolish unauthorised constructions. As a result, the builders’ lobby thought no action will be taken against them,” said an MCD official. “This demolition drive against unauthorised construction activities is also meant to send a message across to unscrupulous builders to respect laws. We are in no mood to give respite to offenders,” he said.
