108 shops issued challan for encroachment

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation challaned 108 shopkeepers during an anti-encroachment drive in the Sadar and Rehri Market, Sector 19, on Thursday.The enforcement staff also cleared the passage in the market where shopkeepers had kept packets of cloths, shoes and other items.The goods were loaded on four trucks. The drive was held under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Lalit Siwach and assisted by Inspector K D Sharma and other enforcement staff of MCC.
On Monday the civic body issued notices to the encroachers and warned them, but they did not remove their wares from the public space. The additional commissioner said more drives would be carried out in other markets, including Shastri Market in Sector 22 and Sector 15.
