MUDA demolishes three illegal structures

MYSORE: In a pre-dawn operation on Tuesday, the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) demolished two illegal houses and a prayer hall near Devanur lake at Udayagiri to reclaim land worth Rs. 6 crore that belongs to it.
A MUDA demolition squad headed by superintending engineer Shivakumar, assisted by executive engineer Veerabhadraiah and zonal officer Thrayambaka supervised the operation that took just about an hour. The Udayagiri police provided security around the site.
According to MUDA authorities, all the buildings that were razed were illegal constructions on the three-acre plot.
A few months ago, the development body had launched a programme to identify and map all its properties in and around the city. Illegal structures were identified on its property on Survey No. 133, where Tuesday's demolitions took place; MUDA had issued notices to those who purchased sites from the land developer there. They had also been cautioned against constructing houses on the land.
However, despite repeated notices, the land developer refused to vacate the site and MUDA had no alternative but to demolish the structures, the authorities added.
A senior MUDA official told The Hindu that the authority would continue its demolition drive against “intentional encroachment” in a phased manner. A criminal complaint would be registered against the developer who cheated people, he said.
